Elderly Couple John and Betty are happily married until John’s unhealthy obsession with solving crimes leads him to grow dangerously suspicious of his wife.

Flipping Workshops

As you’ve probably become accustomed over the years during Flip not only do we have screenings and guest speakers and Q&A sessions we also have various workshops running at the same time and this year is no different!
Boy do we have some corkers on offer for you!!!
Thursday 27th October - 12pm: Introduction to XNA.
This half day workshop is a great opportunity to get introduced to the X-Box XNA game platform which allows users to begin developing their own games with the free downloadable tools from Microsoft. Supported by STech & The Institute of Gaming & Animation, University of Wolverhampton. Tickets £30 / £25 conc.
Thursday 27th October -5pm – Animation Drop in
Fancy trying your hand at animation? Local animation expert Fiona Kolontari will be here to show you some of the tricks of the trade. There will be an opportunity to animate your own character with 3D model making, and much more. It’s free and suitable for all ages.
To coincide with the workshop; opera as you’ve never seen it before! Flip will be screening ‘Operavox’ – an animated opera, at 7pm.
Friday 28th October – 3pm: Bill Plympton Masterclass
The Bill Plympton Masterclass will see the animation maestro talk about his career as an illustrator and animator and he will create live drawings. Every participant will get a free drawing.
Bill Plympton, originally from Portland, Oregon, moved to New York to pursue a career in animation, studying at the School of Visual Arts and started out illustrating for top magazines such as Vogue and Rolling Stone. He moved onto producing short and feature animation films, including the Oscar nominated ‘Your Face’ and ‘Guard Dog’, has worked on music videos with stars such as Kanye West and ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic, and is still the only animator to hand draw an entire animated feature film. ‘Plympton’ a long running political cartoon strip, which began in 1975, has appeared in over 20 newspapers. Its success has made Plympton a household name around the world, its distinctive style making it instantly recognizable. Plympton has won numerous awards over the years including a lifetime achievement award from the Action on Film International Film Festival for his dedication and influence on the world on animation. Saturday 29th October – 1.20pm: Aardman (Model Making)
This model making workshops will give you easy to follow instructions on how you can create you’re very own Gromit, one half of the much beloved dynamic duo that have graced our screens since the late 1980s. This workshop is suitable for all ages and you will be able to keep your creations. Tickets: £6

Bill Plympton Masterclass

Light House is excited to welcome world renowned animator Bill Plympton to FLIP International Animation Festival this October
FLIP International Animation Festival is proud to announce that Oscar nominated animator Bill Plympton will be showcasing some of his award winning films and hosting a unique masterclass at this month’s festival. Bill Plympton has been successful as an independent animator and filmmaker for over 40 years. The ‘King of Indie Animation’ will be visiting FLIP this year to host a masterclass and to provide his top tips to help those wanting to get into the industry. The masterclass will take place on Friday 28 October at 3 – 5.30pm, cost £10. There will be a screening of Bill’s shorts followed by a Q&A with the animator on Friday 28 October at 8pm and the UK premiere of documentary film Adventures In Plymptoons! providing a portrait of Bill on Saturday 29 October at 5pm.
